About Chalet Morclan...
You’ll struggle to take your eyes off the incredible views from Chalet Morclan near Manigod – La Clusaz. The large private terraces on two sides of the house are the perfect place from which to admire the mountains of the Manigod valley – Etale, the Aiguille de Manigod, Mont Charvin, Val Sulens, and La Tournette.
Sitting on the crest of a hill, this 4-star chalet enjoys total privacy. It is reached by a lane which is kept clear of snow, but the 100m drive can be tricky to negotiate in winter – visitors may need to leave the car at the bottom and walk the last bit to be on the safe side! But it’s absolutely worth the effort.
There’s a narrow rural path at the back which is occasionally used by local farmers to bring sheep and felled trees down from the higher pastures, but apart from that you’ll enjoy splendid isolation.
Steep steps to the house and the open tread of the staircase mean it is not suitable for those with limited mobility or very small children, but groups with older children will love the homely touches such as books, games and, in the garden, a trampoline and a table tennis table. The owners also switch the outdoor furniture over seasonally, so that the summer furniture is not destroyed by the harsh Alpine winters, while ensuring guests still have somewhere to sit and enjoy the views, a coffee or lunch out of doors all year round.
Chalet Morclan is just 3km from the beautiful village of Manigod, where the church often hosts concerts and organ recitals as well as mass. You'll also find a bar/restaurant, a bakery, pottery shop, hairdressers, craft shop, health spa and a physio clinic in Manigod.
About the property...
Groups of up to eight (max 6 adults) will find plenty of space in this well-planned chalet.
The entrance hall leads to a well-equipped kitchen and a bright and spacious living/dining room. Two comfortable sofas and two large pouffes surround an open fire and the dining table has plenty of room for everyone to eat together.
There's a music system and the television offers a choice of French and English channels, but in good weather, open the doors onto the large terrace and eat outside so that you can enjoy the fabulous views.
There's a large double bedroom on this floor, which opens onto the sunny terrace wrapping around two sides of the chalet, and has an en-suite shower room with handbasin and WC. The double bed can be separated in to two single beds, and there's a sofa which is the perfect place to grab a quiet moment with a good book. Also on this floor is a separate toilet and a utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer – the underfloor heating makes this a great place to hang up your outdoor clothes so that they are warm and dry for the next day.
There are four more bedrooms upstairs. The master bedroom has an en-suite shower room as well as a dressing room. The large double bed can be split into two singles, and there are doors onto the sunny balcony. Next door is another large room which has a second lounge area with a sofa, as well as access to the balcony. There is also a TV and a huge selection of books, as well as a double bed (also twinable) and storage. It's a great place for children to hang out while the adults have dinner.
There are two more single bedrooms for children and a large family bathroom which was recently renovated.
The bedding is all good quality, with lots of throws to keep you snug on the coldest of nights. Outside there's plenty of parking space as well as a small flat garden with a trampoline (summer only). The large south and east facing furnished terrace is home to the hot tub, where you can soak up the sun from sunrise to sunset.
You will also find a ski room in the property, with boot warmers for 8 people, a ski rack and a workbench with tool kit. In the adjoining room, the table tennis table will delight you in summer and winter alike.
About the area...
You will be right in the heart of some great skiing when staying at Chalet Morclan, without the hustle and bustle of the purpose-built ski resorts.
Parking is free at the Croix Fry sector of the La Clusaz pistes (altitude 1500m), 10km away, and the ski bus stops in Manigod, just 3km away. There's an ESF base, and parents can enjoy lunch or a drink while youngsters build confidence on the nursery slopes.
From here, your Aravis/La Clusaz ski pass gives you access to 95 lifts and 220km of pistes, so there's plenty of scope for skiers of every level.
Cross-country skiers will find plenty of trails to choose from on the nearby Beauregard plateau, and non-skiers are not forgotten, with a heated indoor/outdoor swimming pool, ice skating rink and cinema at La Clusaz, as well as sledging, snow-shoe walking, dog-sledding and sleigh rides.
In the summer, you can explore the mountains and the pine forests by foot or by bike (if you are super-fit) from Chalet Morclan, and the half-hour walks into Manigod village are downhill on the way but uphill on the way back!
There are quite a few marked footpaths criss-crossing this beautiful farming valley, but if you want to make the most of the altitude, put your bike on the ski lift at La Clusaz and come back down at your own pace, or pack a picnic and explore the Beauregard plateau.
Adrenalin junkies can try paragliding, canyoning, climbing, or white-water rafting within a few miles of Manigod. Via ferrata is another great family day out, with adults and children able to explore the mountains on iron walkways, secured to a harness. Why not go on a donkey trek in the Col des Aravis with a picnic in the large baskets carried by the donkeys?
Annecy is a great destination for a day out. Only 30 minutes away by car, there's a beautiful medieval town and canals to explore as well as the lake, where you can try a range of watersports, enjoy a cruise, hire a boat or just have a lazy day on the beach.

From the owner
Karen & Tim
We almost missed Manigod completely! Having decided to take a last-minute summer holiday with friends, we narrowed our choice to two possible locations: a villa in Veyrier-Du-Lac, or an old farm in Manigod.
We chose Manigod and several weeks later found ourselves taking the left turn just a couple of kilometres beyond Thones. The road began to climb until there was a break in the trees and suddenly there it was, that brief view of Etale before the road twisted.
Another tantalising glimpse followed a little further on until eventually we rounded another bend and there was the fabulous view of the village framed by the mountain background that still makes me catch my breath today, more than 30 years later.
The Manigod valley is spectacular, no matter what the season.
We signed for the chalet that summer, and made a couple of short visits during the autumn to find the valley totally transformed from lush green to autumnal hues. The cows and goats were down from the high pastures dotted around the valley at various farms.
When we returned at Christmas, the valley had become a winter sports paradise, blanketed in thick snow. The Aravis mountains are not the highest peaks in the Alps by any means, but there is plenty of interesting, picturesque and varied skiing to suit all levels.
At Easter we collected the keys for the chalet in bright sunshine. A couple of days later we skied at Balme in the morning before watching Le Défi Foly (an end of season competition which involves sliding down the mountain and across an icy lake) at Confins in the afternoon.
Our visits that first year set the tone for what was to follow: the valley is different with each season and life here has a calm timeless quality. The local communities respect and promote the traditions that have given the valleys their individual characters and flavours.
The pastures cows graze on transform into busy ski fields each winter. Tradition meets modern life, high-energy activity meets peace and quiet.
Our children have played on the playground at the village school in temperatures ranging from minus 20 to 40 degrees!
Chalet Morclan is on a crest, which means we enjoy almost panoramic views framed by Etale, Val Sulens, Tournette and the road up towards the Col de la Croix Fry. You could not wish to be in a more spectacular mountain setting, and yet we are just 30 minutes away from the lake with the medieval walled city of Annecy just beyond. Geneva airport is an hour away.
The chalet is a comfortable base in a beautiful setting - a home ideal for sharing with friends and family. Comfortable beds, plenty of bathrooms and hot water, a spacious terrace, and glorious views from each window.
We hope you enjoy spending time in this stunning space - take time to recharge your batteries, appreciate your surroundings, slow your pace, breathe and enjoy, before setting off on whichever type of mountain or lake adventure calls to you.

“A wonderful place for a relaxing vacation”
A wonderful place for a relaxing vacation. The view is breathtaking, and the outdoor facilities are well-designed and comfortable. Inside, everything is well-equipped, organized, clean, and modern. The kitchen, dining area, and cozy living room are lovely, and the bedrooms and bathrooms are nice. The Wi-Fi was intermittent, but it may have been a local issue. Thank you to the owners and to Grace for her warm welcome. We were four Quebecers traveling together, and we really enjoyed our stay. We highly recommend it!
“All ingredients available for a perfect holiday!”
